Our Mission

Sisterhood Recoded’s mission is to help to narrow the gender gap in tech related fields. Tech related fields are still predominantly male dominated, which causes a disparity when developing technology solutions that serve non-male populations. Diversity in the workforce is the only solution. This comes both from exposing girls to tech related education but also to educating boys on the need for encouraging girls' interests in tech related fields.

The camp aims to do both of those things, by both teaching students how to code and exposing students to professional women working in tech fields and hearing their stories.

What is Sisterhood ReCoded?

Sisterhood ReCoded is a week-long coding camp where students will be exposed to not only coding instruction but also to the stories of professional women working in technology related fields.

Why is this important?

The technology field is exponentially growing, demanding the need for the professionals to fill vacant positions. Meanwhile, there is an extensive lack of diversity and a shortage of Computer Science graduates to qualify for these positions.

The lack of diversity in technology related fields leads to significant disadvantages for the solutions developed. Voice recognition software that won't recognize female voices, for example. More subtle issues exist when women are not involved in developing software that will be used by women. Closing the gender gap in tech related fields is recognized as a national issue.

What happens with a program?

Students will be taught by women who are involved in tech related fields. These women will provide patient instruction as well as positive role models for what women can achieve in tech related fields.

Part of the program will be to introduce students to professional women who are successfully working in technology fields.

Is this really free?

Yes! Our sponsors pay for the camp, allowing us to provide it at no cost to you.
